Sensory Trail

Sensory Trail - Brayden Yonkers Eagle Scout Project

Thank you for visiting the sensory trail created by Brayden Yonkers as his Eagle Scout Project in 2023.  A sensory trail or walkway is designed to provide sensory stimulation by using a variety of different materials for individuals with sensory disorders.  This is a way for everyone to enjoy nature and the outdoors!

The short trail exhibits different textures, hikers will get to experience a mulch box of shredded bark, brightly colored smooth pipes, the handprints of volunteers and members of The Clarksville Association for Down Syndrome, smooth patterned wooden tiles, smooth stones, rubbery mat, bumpy edging stones, earth-colored course turf, brightly smooth colored billiard balls to encourage counting and color identification, a cushioned mat with holes and a bed of porous lava rocks.

While designed to appeal to individuals with sensory issues, the hope is that the trail will be fun and exciting for all users. We also encourage hikers to take in the sounds, smells, and scenery of this beautiful park as they play on this trail. Listen for the sounds of the birds chirping, the trickling and bubbling sounds of the nearby creek and the laughter of the families as they play in the water and get excited over finding “crawdaddies.” Take time to breathe in the fresh air, the sweet aroma of wildflowers, fallen leaves and cedar trees while enjoying the inviting surroundings of the park. Be sure to take notice of the different types of trees, the wildlife that calls the park their home and the winding trails that have new discoveries around each corner.
