The mission of the Montgomery County EMS Education Division is to provide high-quality educational programs for the community, emergency healthcare professionals and other emergency response providers and technicians.

Purpose

The primary purpose of the Division is to educate the community and medical services professionals. The Department is committed to providing life-long training opportunities and continuing medical education programs to all emergency healthcare professionals in the region including, physicians, nurses, paramedics and other allied healthcare professionals.

The Division is committed to assisting business and industry and the area's public service agencies with safety and health compliance issues and continuing education mandates.

Central to this mission is the Division's on-going commitment to stay abreast of the latest research, regulatory issues and standards of practice affecting the various professional disciplines and technical fields of emergency services. The Division will continue to promote excellence in education and training and will continue to strive to improve the safety and health of the citizens of this community.

Training and Education Division

Montgomery County EMS has an extensive training and education program for the community, the experienced EMT or Paramedic as well as those who are recent EMS training program graduates. For the most part all continuing education is handled through our own in-house training division. This division is led by the Training and Education Captain. Education is delivered to our personnel using several methods which meet the guidelines for awarding continuing education units. EMS employees receive educational opportunities in excess of 150 hours each year, well above the 30 hours that is required by the state. In-house Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support and Geriatric Education for Emergency Medical Services, Rapid Sequence Induction and Surgical Cricothyrotomy are among a few of the educational offerings.  The Training Captain also acts as the department's compliance officer.  Which is responsible for ensuring staff's compliance in providing proper documentation in order to prevent fraudulent and or abusive conduct as it pertains to ambulance billing.

Ten (10) Field Training Officers (FTO's), support the Education Division. These FTO's are assigned to 12- or 24-hour shifts where they have the following responsibilities and appointments in addition to working on a unit as a Paramedic:

  • Day to Day Medical Responses
  • Assist with Employee Orientation
  • Assist with Employee training/education
  • Assist Protocol Development
  • Preceptor Program
  • Advanced Life Support Audit and Review
  • Basic Life Support Audit and Review
  • An Active Part of our Quality Improvement Program
  • Act as a District Supervisor when needed.
