POSITION: Public Information Officer
LOCATION: Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field and at least two years work experience is required; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. Applicant must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
SALARY: Entry starting range based on experience $40,309.52 to $45,395.07
DUTIES: Gather and verify news information through interview, observation and research; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, news media and others contacted in the course of assignment; Accurately interpret policies and procedures to provide and clarify information; Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful and highly visible situations; Work within stringent deadlines to complete projects and assignments; Produce written documents in the English language using proper sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar; Exercise sound judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information; Read, comprehend, and interpret complex written materials; Respond to citizen and media requests, website inquires/social media in a courteous and effective manner; Make presentations to small and large audiences; Organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks; Work any hours including weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and call-outs; Communicate orally and in writing with other employees, members of the media, other agencies, and the public by telephone, in a one-to-one, face-to-face setting, and in a group setting in the English language.
