Students on Committees Program Begins

Montgomery County Government is pleased to be kicking off the first year of our Students on Committees Program. Twelve students from area high schools have been selected to serve as ex-officio members of various County Government committees for the 2015-16 school year.

Students began attending committee meetings in September and will be included in all county activities for the remainder of the school year. Mayor Jim Durrett states, "I am excited about this new program. These students will get to directly participate in government meetings, events and projects, and get an understanding for the decisions and services that are an everyday part of County Government." He continues, "These students are bright, talented individuals that are interested in learning how local government operates. That is truly exciting to me, and I hope they find our program valuable and interesting. We are proud to have them join us this year and look forward to hearing their perspectives and to learning from them as well!"

Participants include: Claire Barnett (Rossview High); Melissa Bergmann (Northwest High); Justin Chase (Northwest High); Helen Faulk (Northwest High); Sydney Johnson (Northwest High); Jordan Kilts (Kenwood High); Tyler McIntyre (Kenwood High); Alexis Mihalinec (Rossview High); Brooklynn Mitchell (Rossview High); Ryan Streeter (Clarksville High); Elizabeth Tobin (Clarksville High); and Carson Watts (Rossview High).

Applications for the 2016-17 school year will be available in April. For more information on the Students on Committees Program, contact Elizabeth Black at 931-648-8482.
